May 26, 2024 – In a stunning turn of events, the new USL League Two expansion team Charlottesville Blues FC achieved a monumental victory, defeating the dominant Lionsbridge FC 2-0 at their home field. This match marked the end of Lionsbridge FC’s impressive home unbeaten winning streak, which had remained intact since 2019, spanning 41 games.
Charlottesville Blues FC displayed remarkable skill and determination in this landmark game, securing their first league win in their inaugural season and marking their first-ever win in the history of the franchise. History has been made. The Blues took the lead in the 30th minute when Samuel Vigilante found the back of the net, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The team doubled their advantage in the 59th minute with a penalty kick from Josh Kirkland. The penalty was awarded following a controversial foul in the box by Lionsbridge’s Josh Gordon, who had just been substituted into the game moments earlier.
Despite Lionsbridge FC controlling much of the possession and outshooting Charlottesville 15-9, they struggled to find the target, managing just two shots on goal.
